Teacher Talk Tuesday

End of the Year Activities

Alternative Title: Filling the final days of school with crap team-building activities when all you really want is some time to yourself to clean/pack up your room for the summer.

Well folks, we're in the final days. Here's what our week looks like:
Tuesday (today): All day fieldtrip to a Nature Preserve
Translation: the fieldtrip begins when our school day begins but has to end when the middle schoolers day ends because we use district buses leaving us with an hour and a half left to teach while exhausted, sweaty, hungry, thirsty, and in serious, desperate need of a bathroom break... ergo movie time! (In all seriousness the trip was fun and the kids had a blast, one even told me how much they love learning!, so it was a great day but the stuff following the fieldtrip is all true confessions of a classroom teacher)

Wednesday: Pajama Party
My kids finally earned the last marble in our jar and were so excited about this party! The kids get to bring anything special that fits in their backpacks and I will provide a movie and special snack... they compare it to a trip to Disneyworld, no joke

Thursday: Library Fieldtrip
Insert caption from Tuesdays fieldtrip only this one isn't as exhausting... but it's still is a curve ball in our day.

Friday: Field Day
Now, this could warrant a post in and of itself... but I'll spare you and just say that although you may remember how fun your field days were as a kid... they're not all sunshine and rainbows for the teachers (and if you're even thinking that teachers are "off duty" during field day I will string a tapestry of profanity worthy of an academy award... don't.even.go.there --- AND if you work in a school where field day is completely run by someone other than the faculty and you do get the time to yourself,  a) send me an application or b)get off my blog)

Monday and Tuesday: -----
Translation: I'm totally checked out These days are open to interpretation.

And that's all folks. To be honest, it sounds worse than it is. At this point, we are so into a groove that all it takes is one of my dagger looks and the kids go right back to doing something productive. Don't be too discouraged, we'll still read and write because the books and paper aren't going anywhere, it'll just be far less structured. I prefer to use the objective: reading and writing for fun. My teaching point at this point in the year is as follows: "If you don't know it by now, take it up with your 2nd grade teacher." Boo-yah
