Summer Storms
We had some storms roll through central Iowa this morning and from what I hear, the last 36 hours have brought numerous storms all over Northern Iowa and Minnesota. Even though we all prefer beautiful sunny days in summertime, you just can't beat a good storm (unless, I guess, if you have little ones at home with lots of energy, then I suppose you see storms as unwanted house arrest).
Whenever I see and hear severe weather warnings interrupting a regularly scheduled broadcast, I'm reminded of the time my girlfriends and I drove to Alpine Valley to meet up with Mike and his friends for a Dave Matthews concert. We were having a blast on our 6 hour car ride from Minneapolis to middle-of-nowhere Wisconsin until we heard severe weather warnings coming across the radio. As we listened, we realized the skies were changing and we could be in for some trouble. As we got closer to Alpine, the weather men on the radio kept talking about the Dave concert we were going to and how the storm was headed straight there. When we arrived, we realized they had closed the entrance to the venue because of the weather so we ended up stuck in a line about 2 miles long with others waiting to get in. As we sat we watched a black wall of clouds inch closer and closer to the line of cars (did I mention we were in my ford focus so any winds higher than 50 mph were sure to send us flying). It was crazy! When the storm finally did roll in it included some pretty strong winds, spitting rain, as well as heavy downpours. Luckily it passed in about 15 minutes and we were able to make it into the venue area and enjoy the show. We had some serious catching up to do once we arrived (as Mike and his friends were fully intoxicated at this point because apparently... when a storm rolls in you have to drink your weight in liquor) but we rose to the challenge and had a blast.
The 3 of us in Freddy the Focus waiting out the storm. It's been a while since I looked at this picture, we look so young!! Road trip with the girls... good times... must do this again sometime =).
