Family Weekend

Sorry friends! I had every intention of blogging away last night but... I fell asleep! Yep, by 7:30... I was out (I know... sweet, huh!) I guess it may have been because we had an awesome and busy weekend with my family! They came down on Saturday to see the Lion King and stayed through Monday morning. After a hearty (and smoky... apparently I am still working on my bacon cooking skills), my mom and I kept ourselves busy with a little shopping.

I know what you're thinking... how did those boys keep themselves occupied without us around?! Well, how can you go wrong with Sunday football, beverages, and a little world domination (RISK, I mean). They had a blast!


After a few hours at the mall, my mom and I headed back home for a nice homeade pot of chili. We found a great chili recipe in one of my new favorite cookbooks...

This was a bean-less chili so it was perfect for Mike. The family approved too!


Mmmmmm.... I also whipped up some cornbread muffins. All in all it was a successful dish and Mike and I were able to enjoy leftovers last night.

I wasn't sure I wanted to write a post about Will's arrival partly because I believe this is a very intimate event meant for an exclusive crowd (in our case this would include just Mike and I) and partly because I wasn't sure I'd really want to relive the event. Welcome to Iowa!

Come one, come all… to a place called Iowa (it’s in the middle, not to be confused with Idaho ). Welcome blog-trotters , I’m happy you are here! My Iowa journey began 8 years ago at Iowa State University and I’m now going on year 4 of my true residency as an Iowan. My husband and I live in the center of the downtown area of Des Moines. We make a living by teaching the youth of America (or future Iowans themselves). Baby P has Arrived

It's true... the wait is finally over... Baby P has officially joined the world. William Michael Pentek  finally  joined the world on June 18th! Truth be told, I was  completely shocked  it was a boy. I secretly was convinced it was a girl the entire time I was pregnant, honest. I didn't say anything ever because I truly did not care either way, it was just a feeling I had. And I was wrong! Mike was actually the one to announce the sex once he came out and I was in shock!! Here's Will the day after he was born. Here's Will as we packed up to leave the hospital. This picture cracks me up because the look on his face looks so  skeptical as if he's thinking, "are they really going to send me home with these  two?!" haha, can't say I blame him. :) Will is now 12 days old and we've been home for a week and 2 days. He (and we) even survived his first road trip to Minnesota this past weekend. We are adjusting very well...
