Dawning of a new decade
This is a totally delayed realization, but it dawned on me this morning that 2010 brings about a new decade that will no doubt bring huge changes to my/our lives! At first my thoughts were calm, "oh how exciting, a new decade! Well, let's think of all the things that happened in the last decade...". This is when I realized when the last decade began I was... 15, good lord!
So here's a rundown of the last decade...
2000- 10th grade... an ever so naive 15 year old. All my time spent with friends and at the dance studio.
2001- Watch out world... Sarah Dean can drive! I remember taking my driver's test in my mom's green minivan... awesome. Ooh, also went to Vegas with my dance team... pretty sure I want to go back there now that I can actually partake in the festivities.
2002- Graduated high school... started college... best freakin' time of my life. I changed a lot this year... I can't really explain it but I definitely became more comfortable with myself and my own limits
2003- Finished my first year of college, went to Washington DC with my family, started sophomore year and met a dashing young man from St. Charles, IL
2004- My junior year of college was a rough one... I was introduced to anxiety attacks as the realization of being an adult proved to be a bit much... oh yeah and that boy from St. Charles... still in my life proving himself to be someone I may want around for a long, long time. Also went to Australia and snorkeled in the Great Barrier Reef... there are no words
2005- Last year of college, got over my anxiety while my mind shifted into the responsible mindset
2006- Graduated from college, moved to Des Moines and lived on my own for a year
2007- Landed my first teaching job after 2 long term sub. positions teaching both Kindergarten and 1st grade. This was an awesome year for me... reaching a life long dream at the age of 23 makes you feel like you're on top of the world... I felt very blessed
2008- Mike joins me in Des Moines and lands a job teaching himself... oh yeah and we got engaged!
2009- Got married and had to say goodbye to being Sarah Dean! Also started grad school to pursue another dream of mine... earning a master's degree.
All in all, you could say it was a great decade! When I write it all out like this, I realize how much I actually accomplished in 10 years. When I think about this next decade, it gives me butterflies. What will it bring? Master's degree, trip to Europe, first house, kids?!?!?! Crazy to think about, huh! Well, I guess I'll have to refer to a quote given to me by my friend Jillian...
"The best way to predict your future, is to create it!"
Bring it on 2010 and beyond!
