One of those days
This has been one of the craziest days I have had in a while! Here's the lowdown, and I'd like you to notice the starting point of this truly manic Monday:
12:02am
The power goes out... no big deal... we're sleeping, right?!
5:00am
I wake up and notice the power is still out so I take a trip to the hallway to see if the power is out in the whole building or the just our apartment... result: it's out in the whole building.
5:30am
Mike's alarm goes off... we assess the situation...no power for 5 1/2 hours and our garage door won't be open until at least 8:30am when the maintnance guy comes to work (kind of a problem when you leave for work at 6:45am), he quickly decides to take an emergency day
6:00am
Not knowing when the power will be back on or when I will be able to actually depart from our humble abode...I decide to set up a sub. for the morning so there will for sure be a teacher in my classroom when the students get there. We have absolutely wonderful colleagues!
7:45am
Recieve a message from our property manager saying there are numerous areas without power in Des Moines. Power will be restored by 8:55am.
8:00am
Mike and I transfer food from fridge to coolers.
9:30am
Still no power and I have to be ready to leave the house in an hour and a half. I desperately need a shower before work. SO, I hop into a freezing, and I mean freezing, cold shower! The water was so cold it gave me brain freeze while I was washing my hair. Not a pleasant experience.
11:00am
Time to leave and guess what... the power comes back on!
11:06am
I hit the road and realize... we got some snow overnight... a lot of snow in fact.
11:25am
Arrive at school to find out we are dismissing 2 hours early because of the blizzard warning over central Iowa! I couldn't freakin' believe it.
12:00pm-1:55pm
Taught math, social studies, and reading in an hour and 55 minutes. Why all 3? becausewehavehadtoomanyfreakinsnowdaysmystudentsareofficiallystartingtounlearn!
2:25pm
Head back home and finally catch the weather forecast... blizzard warning in effect for central and north Iowa, highways closed and plows are being pulled off the road, more snow to come
Wow, what a day! Needless to say, I haven't been exactly pleasant to be around today. Mike actually asked me when I got home, after I unleashed my frustration with the craziness of this day, "would you like to share anything positive with me?!" Haha, luckily I do have many things to be thankful of even on days like this. Mike and I are so lucky to work with people who allow us peace of mind when situations like this arise and I can come home to a husband who will always listen to my frustration then remind me of how lucky we are.
Tomorrow is a new day... and quite possibly another snow day... we shall see.
Thanks for listening!
