Honeymoon Wrap-up

I thought it'd be best to wrap up the honeymoon posts, mostly because it's a bit painful to look at pictures of a place this beautiful in the dead of winter! So here goes it...

We spent our last day in Maui relaxing on the beach. We had dinner on a boat cruise along the island which was really fun. This is a picture from the deck. It was a great end to our stay on Maui. We were so sad to say goodbye, but excited to move on to our next adventure!

After 5 days in Maui, we hopped on a plane and headed to Big Island. Well... actually it wasn't that simple. One of the things we learned on this trip was that Mike is now in charge of all travel plans. Why, because Sarah lacks basic common sense when it comes to directionality. You see, when it came to the honeymoon Mike took care of 98% leaving me with just one simple task... book our flight from Maui to Big Island. As it turned out, I booked a flight from Maui only to travel north (the exact opposite direction we needed to be going) to Oahu, wait in the airport for a 2 hour layover, then head south again (yes, past Maui, our original starting point) to Big Island... yes... we traveled north to go south.

Actual travel time from Maui to Big Island: about 38 minutes
Mike and Sarah travel time from Maui to Big Island: about 4 hours

What have we learned: Mike = travel planner

Luckily, I have the most understanding husband!

Our first adventure on Big Island was a trip to a botanical center. I'm not sure it was a great idea because every botanical center we will visit in the future will pale in comparison. This place was a photographers dream! The flowers were incredible and all the walkways were surrounded by enough trees to make you feel like you were actually somewhere in the Amazon.

Our last, and biggest adventure yet, was a trip to Volcanoes National Park. Mike is a huge fan of visiting national parks so this was the main reason we decided to put Big Island on the list of places to see. One of the coolest things about the area was the dried laval flow you saw as you drove around. It looked so cool because it was black yet still had the texture as if it were flowing!

We drove down to the ocean front to try and see where there is actual lava flowing into the water. We weren't able to get close enough to see anything good, but we did come across this awesome sign.

After 9 whole days in wonderful Hawaii, we had to depart to begin our happily ever after. Everything was incredible and someday... we'll venture back to celebrate another milestone.
Until then... Aloha `oe, A hui hou kakou... which means farewell to you, until we meet again!
