Happy Friday
In honor of not only it being Friday but that I'm actually with it enough this week to know what day it is (summer gets a bit relaxed and it's hard to keep track of days when you don't really need to)... I present to you a post full of random thoughts.
Get excited.
- I'm writing this while watching an E! special on the royal baby. Believe me or not, it's more because there's nothing else really on TV and not because I'm super obsessed with the royal baby. I must say I'm quite shocked to see and hear every one's negative thoughts around this news, the hype, and the English monarch in general. Out of interest I read a few articles this week explaining various topics such as the utter insignificance of the English monarch, complaining about the gender of the kid (written by a feminist who really wanted it to be a girl), and speculating whether Kate will breastfeed which apparently is the make-or-break factor for her qualifying as a "real mom". It's a baby guys. Take a chill pill. The only thing each of these articles proved to me was that Americans will take any chance they can get to express their opinions with no regard to validity of their facts, tact, or general generosity of spirit. Free speech at it's finest. I've never been more proud.
- Did anyone else read about America's 20 Most Miserable Cities this week? I was definitely surprised by some but was definitely not surprised to see *SPOILER ALERT* Flint and Detroit MI take the #1 and #2 spots. I do believe Flint has always had a spot on this list and with the recent news about Detroit's financial state, I can see why it made its way to the top.
- You know who isn't on the list of most miserable cities? Des Moines. In fact, the day after I clicked through the pictures on the Forbes website I received the latest addition of the City of Des Moines City Source which listed a few notable awards for this great city. These include: #3 on Forbes list of emerging Downtowns and #8 on the list of Best Cities for Young Professionals. Pretty cool, huh?!
- Mike is playing in the Iowa Games this weekend with his community soccer team. He's pretty excited to play and the weather is supposed to be wonderful. Jackson and I are planning to attend his game tomorrow which I'm pretty nervous about mostly because I really don't know how he'll act. Jackson is indifferent, as long as there are treats involved he's game.
- We've worked really hard on getting the hang of walking on a leash this past week. Jackson is doing better. He's finally grasping the idea that his attention needs to be on us instead of everything else around him. He really likes string cheese which we cut up into little pieces. If he knows we have this and he earns it by sticking by us this usually ends up as a win-win. He's by no means ready to walk anywhere for long but it's nice to see progress.
- I discovered this blog a while back and added it to my Feedly reader so I keep up with her posts. Then yesterday I read this post and decided she's a genius. Mike and I will definitely be playing this game from now on during the Christmas season.
Must run, time for some play time with my four-legged little guy who is currently sitting so sweetly in his crate with his head tilted watching me as I type. Such a sweetie... now please learn to walk on your leash :). Happy Friday everyone!
