Puppy Life
*Please excuse the excessive puppy posts this week. We literally arranged our summer schedules to make sure we had nothing going on when we brought Jackson home so... this is how we'll role for the next few weeks. My apologies :).
Certainly is rough isn't it.
I realize the crate sort of gets in the way but we realized Jackson was feeling more comfortable in his surroundings when he started really wiggling, stretching, and squirming in his sleep. The first day his curled up in a ball to sleep but now he's started rolling onto his back which is what you see here. You can also see in the right corner of the crate near his feet is the most sophisticated dog toy on the market... an empty yogurt container. Seriously, the little guy goes nuts over it. I'm so glad our breeder told us the best toys for puppies are the cheapest!
Night 2 went much better. You know how new moms begin to decipher their own infants cries and can eventually determine what they want by their cry? Well, you can sort of do the same thing with puppies and their breathing. First, Jackson's breathing is crazy ridiculous while he sleeps. Every five minutes it seems to be going at a different pace and volume. Apparently this is totally normal but it kinda freaked me out during his first few naps. Anyways, I learned last night that tuning in to his breathing is helpful at night when determining if he's awake for a potty break or not. The first night he was up about every 3 hours to pee so I set an alarm for that amount of time last night to be ready (he's such a good puppy he really doesn't make any noise yet to signal he's awake and needs to go out, he'll just sit in his cage and wait). When the alarm went off I noticed he was still doing is sleep breathing so I let him go for a bit longer. Eventually I could tell he was awake because his breathing changes when he's sitting up which meant he was ready for a potty break.
I probably sound crazy but I like the fact that we're learning more about him everyday. And, as I'm sure you can tell, we're quite in smitten with our little guy.
