Student again
Last fall I started taking classes at Drake University in pursuit of my masters degree. I was under the impression that I was still "with it" when it came to being a student (considering it's been only 3 short years since undergrad) but I was wrong.
So far, of my 5 classes that I've completed or are currently taking, 2 have been online classes. However, all 5 have had some type of online component (digital drop boxes, online discussion boards, etc.). Although I am really all for the integration of technology whenever possible, I am having a hard time adjusting to this new virtual classroom.
I never really thought about how much I valued talking with and learning from actual people. It's also a lot easier for me to understand the expectations for assignments when I have an actual person explain it to me. I ran into some problems last semester because I didn't read the assignment overviews with enough care... weird, I know.
Mike and I get a kick out of this because we both teach reading... and we use books to teach kids to read.
Online learning has its perks though... you can attend every single class in your jammies!
