Honeymoon Day 3

Our 3rd full fay in Maui was much better than the 2nd. The bike ride down Haleakala was another must do in Hawaii, so we decided to add it to our list. We were picked up at a local Starbucks and brought to the debriefing area where they gave you some really cool wind breaker type clothes because it can get really chilly on the top of the mountain (and by really cool, I mean bright yellow tarp like clothing that made it difficult to move). We also had to watch a video about the bikes, safety, and how dangerous it is to bike down the mountain. Hmm, bright plastic clothing and danger around ever turn... we were set!

We rode a van to the top of the mountain and quickly learned this was going to be a great experience. We had dressed warm enough so we didn't need the tarp clothes and our tour guide was great! Our group had about 12 people, and we were the only newlyweds! We arrived at the top of the mountain where they gave us some time to sight see.

This is called a Silversword plant and can only be found at the top of this particular mountain.

After some pictures and more information about safety as we rode down the mountain we were on our way. The bike ride was amazing! It was like being on a roller coaster!!! As we headed down the mountain, the temperature warmed quickly. This is a picture of us at our rest stop half way down the mountain. There was a cute little market where we were able to have lunch. I chose to the half shot, because the full length shot is a little embarrassing. Since we were newlyweds, we had to do the newlywed pose. This consisted of me sitting on the handlebars... and we'll leave it at that. Luckily, this picture turned out pretty cute!

All in all, a very fun day, and our best adventure yet.
