Calling all designers!

We need some help!!
So... Mike and I really love our apartment. It's in downtown Des Moines, so close to everything yet far enough away from both of our schools that we don't run the risk of running into students or parents on a regular basis (yes, you have to think about these things when both you and your husband are teachers). We have plenty of space, great friends nearby, and lots of things to do.
All that aside... we need some decorating tips!!!
Our entryway... probably the best dressed part of the apartment. The basket says Merry Christmas (obviously a seasonal thing) but we usually have a fancy bowl there to house our keys and junk.

Trouble spot #1- This random window!!
We want something unique but also functional... and can never decide on anything!
Trouble spot #2- Our HUGE wall!!
If take a look at yesterday's post, you'll see our "busy" wall that houses our entertainment center, table, and currently our Christmas tree.
Welcome to the other side of the room...
it's just so long we don't know what to do! We aren't
wild and crazy people, especially when it comes to decor, but we both agree, something must be placed on this very large wall.
Trouble spot #3- Too much white space above our kitchen cabinets
Now... I actually have an idea for this area. Yesterday, we were at Target buying Christmas decorations and we saw these chalkboard spots. They stick to the wall and can be used for fun messages and such. However, I just don't know if it'd be enough.
I so wish I had a knack for these things... I actually feel bad for our apartment because we are not living in it at it's fullest potential!! We are ready for something and open to anything!

I wasn't sure I wanted to write a post about Will's arrival partly because I believe this is a very intimate event meant for an exclusive crowd (in our case this would include just Mike and I) and partly because I wasn't sure I'd really want to relive the event. Welcome to Iowa!

Come one, come all… to a place called Iowa (it’s in the middle, not to be confused with Idaho ). Welcome blog-trotters , I’m happy you are here! My Iowa journey began 8 years ago at Iowa State University and I’m now going on year 4 of my true residency as an Iowan. My husband and I live in the center of the downtown area of Des Moines. We make a living by teaching the youth of America (or future Iowans themselves). We both come from neighboring states (I’m from Minnesota and he’s from Illinois ) but we are thoroughly enjoying our lives here in the capital city. Baby P has Arrived

It's true... the wait is finally over... Baby P has officially joined the world. William Michael Pentek  finally  joined the world on June 18th! Truth be told, I was  completely shocked  it was a boy. I secretly was convinced it was a girl the entire time I was pregnant, honest. I didn't say anything ever because I truly did not care either way, it was just a feeling I had. And I was wrong! Mike was actually the one to announce the sex once he came out and I was in shock!! Here's Will the day after he was born. Here's Will as we packed up to leave the hospital. This picture cracks me up because the look on his face looks so  skeptical as if he's thinking, "are they really going to send me home with these  two?!" haha, can't say I blame him. :) Will is now 12 days old and we've been home for a week and 2 days. He (and we) even survived his first road trip to Minnesota this past weekend. We are adjusting very well...
