A newlywed truth...
It's not always that exciting!
Mike and I are being super exciting tonight and... sitting on the couch and talking. To give you all an even cooler mental image... we're not even drinking grown up drinks... sweeeeeeet... we know =).
Anyways, we got on the subject of wrestling. Living in the great state of Iowa where wrestling is huge we, non-native Iowans, have both decided that we do not understand this phenomenon. I just can't seem to get on board with the idea that young boys have to pay such close attention to their weight. I can't imagine what that must do to them during such an image-conscious time in their lives. Mike responded to this by bringing up the point that for many years, no one thought of the mental aspect of the training that goes along with wrestling... only the athletic part of it. This I understand, all sports have their grueling truths about them that you can't quite understand unless you have actually experienced them.
What sports did we participate in, you may wonder?
Mike- Soccer and basketball... but prefers soccer
Sarah- Dance (I also dabbled in cheerleading, but I always face scrutiny with that one because nobody thinks its a true sport)
To sum up, we decided we better spend some time at the state wrestling tournament this year to help gain a better understanding of this sport. Or maybe we'll pass and wait to see if any of our children show an interest in wrestling so we can use that as our golden opportunity to embrace the sport.
As stated before, being a newlywed isn't exciting all the time. I guess it's these kind of nights that begin the transition from newlwed to married. Someday we will look back on nights like this and smile at how fun being notsofun was. I bet we'll also look back and think about how quiet these nights were... once 2 become 3+ quiet nights will be few and far between! (Don't get any ideas family... 2 will remain 2 for a while)
