A Newlywed Truth
I haven't done too many of these since our first anniversary! Maybe that means we're getting a hang of this whole married life thing! doubtful
Shift happens.
During our dating years, Mike and I used to have date nights in which we would make a tower of blankets in the living room and watching movies while enjoying homemade pizza and margaritas. It sounds silly, I'm sure, but it's what we used to do. So, last weekend I suggested we do this again as a little throwback to Mike and Sarah, B.V. (before vows). He agreed, the plans were set for Friday night.
I got home from my day around 6:30 and could already tell the evening was going to be a bit different than we remembered. I entered to a very tired Mike on the couch mumbling something like, "hi, how was your day... the pizza stuff is ready," all with eyes closed and a hood pulled almost entirely over his head. So, I went to take a shower... must freshen up for our hot date... and afterward put on my cutest sweatpants and returned to the living room. Mike napped until 7:45. At 8:00 we finally made our pizzas and enjoyed a cocktail in our martini shaker instead of margarita mix with extra tequila in the blender. The pizza was great, the cocktail was even better. Instead of snuggling up on a mound of blankies however, we enjoyed our dinner on separate couches... and I fell asleep at 10:15pm. Moral of the story... shift happens.
In the end, I woke up to Mike brushing hair off my cheek, telling me to follow him to bed where we both climbed in, kissed each other goodnight and said, with tired smiles on our face, "that was really fun". Sleepier, yes... still enjoyable... absolutely. =)
