The Struggle Heard 'Round the Nation

Forgive my dorkiness in this title, we're studying the Revolutionary War in 5th grade and we just learned about the first battle of the war.

Living a healthy lifestyle. Ahhh, a subject you hear so many people talk about but not so much actually see happening. If you take 10 minutes of your life to peruse the magazine isle or the Healthy Living section of your local bookstore, not to mention countless internet sites, it's very easy to see why talking is easier than doing. How often do you think, "how on earth am I to make sense of the crazy amount of information out there?!?!" It's almost as if we have to go back to the studying technique we "learned" in college... you know, the one telling us that in a chapter of 56 pages, you should really only highlight about 10% of the information in order to find the "big ideas". Now, my final grade in Psych 101 would show I certainly did not learn to master this skill, but I do think it can apply to this situation. Of all the things you read and hear about cutting inches from your waste, portion control, or flattening your stomach in a mere 3 minutes (total crap)... only 10% will be effective in actually working for you. Frustrating, I know.

The other day, however, I came across an article that was truly different than any others I've read on this topic. This article didn't make the promise to make you lose 6 lbs. in a week nor did it focus on fat-fighting foods, it spoke to the true heart of the issue... you. Feel free to take time to read it by going here.

Before I go, I wanted to share a piece of information I received a while back that has been most helpful:
I was told by a trainer at my gym once that if you eat the same amount of calories every single day for the rest of your life, you'll never gain a pound. This sounds so simple when you hear it but it totally made me go, "say, what?" Then I got to thinking, what an incredible sense of power we have over our own health and ultimately, our own lives.
