A Newlywed Truth
Looking Back
Last weekend we made a trip to my parents house because we hadn't seen them in quite some time. We ran into an old friend and after talking with her for a while she said, "hey, you guys are coming up on your 1 year anniversary." Holy moly... she's right!
This made me think of where we were a year ago, May and we were officially coming in on the two month mark which, in the wedding planning world is affectionately known as, crunch time. Funnily enough, for two teachers, this time is also known as the end of the school year... needless to say we were busy.
One of the great memories from this point in the planning process was the showers! We had 3, one from my school (where I received frilly underwear from some of the teachers with the advice, "bake it and shake it Sarah and you'll live happily ever after", I'm now saving these until someone else gets married so I can pass the torch, shhh- don't tell), one in my hometown with my side of family and friends, and one in Mike's hometown with his family and friends. They were all wonderful. It's a pretty cool thing for people you've known forever to come and support your choices in life. The shower hosted by my friends and family was actually a couples shower which was a lot of fun. Below are some pictures from the Pentek side shower. My mom flew to Chicago by herself to be with me, I was so proud of her and absolutely loved that she was there with me. That's the thing about weddings, they sure do bring people together!
The shower was held at a country club so, naturally, the boys were golfing while we were brunching. Mike made an appearance and sat with me while I opened gifts. I was really impressed, I thought he'd stay far away! (and no I didn't secretly make him, it doesn't always work like that)
My mom and I. The shower was so nice, great food and awesome company. Now we get to enjoy all the great stuff we received from all these showers!!
Happy wedding planning to all our friends going through the process. People always say it goes by so fast, and it does, but do you want to know a secret... being married is just as much fun, plus, it lasts longer =)
