Weekend Update

Nothing like starting your work week with just enough snow to make your commute excruciatingly slow. It took me 30 minutes to travel 4 miles, I kid you not (and yes, my commute to work is 4 miles, gotta love Des Moines). I do hope everyone was able to make it to work safely this morning.

Enough about the Monday commute, let’s recap the weekend, shall we?! This Saturday was the Des Moines Home and Garden show downtown at the Iowa Events Center. I was super excited to go but I have to admit, we were both a little overwhelmed! Luckily we went in with a few items to look for specifically. We have some landscaping projects on the list for this summer so we grabbed information from as many landscaping companies as we could. We were also looking for information on some plumbing work we need to have done in our house but struck out in that regard. I’d say the majority of the vendors were selling products and services that fall into the category of “Things We’d Like to do to Our Home” rather than the category we’re currently working within; “Things We Need to do to Our Home”. We stayed for about 2 hours then decided it was time for some afternoon cocktails and appetizers. Good times had by all (all two of us).

Later that evening we met up with a few friends for dinner and then went to see To Kill a Mockingbird at the Des Moines Playhouse. Five out of the six of us who enjoyed the play are in teachers so I’d say we were a pretty tough crowd given that we all know the book so well. I’m happy to report the overall reaction was quite positive.

The play omitted a few parts and story lines to accommodate the live stage setting which was slightly disappointing but I will agree it was necessary. I’d recommend the show if for no other reason than to show some love to the local theaters in the area.

Quite a successful weekend if I do say so myself. I can’t believe we’re in the middle of February already! Happy start to your work week everyone, and a very special week it is, or should I say a very love-ly week, bahahahahahaha.
