He's All Mine

"If I ever go looking for my heart's desire, I needn't go farther than my own backyard." (from my favorite movie in the entire world)

Remember this event from last week? It was, as it always promised to be, nothing short of amazing. Remember this post from a many moons ago? Let's add Share the Mic and the students who shared their original poetry in front of approximately 150 people to my list of "reasons why kids are amazing and why, given the chance, can teach us so much more than we ever teach them." 'nuff said.

So, you're probably wondering why I included the quote at the start of this post, right? Well, the kids weren't the only people to share their original poems.

"Oh hello handsome man who wrote his own poem, dedicated it to his students, then shared it for them in the line up. Oh yeah, and he also happens to be my husband!"

I wish I had the poem Mike wrote for his kids but I think he'd be absolutely mortified if I published it here on the blog. No summary of mine would do it justice, but at the end he looked straight at the students sitting in the first three rows and said, "I'm not just a teacher, I'm their teacher, and I'll never give up on them." I was floored. The live version sent chills up my spine and had his fellow co-workers and boss beaming with pride at his work and at him. So this is where the quote at the top comes into play. My hearts desire? Right there on stage. I'm a lucky gal.
