Weekend Update

This weekend was full of discoveries for me. First, while enjoying a night in with friends on Friday night I discovered I can enjoy a game of beer pong just as much as I enjoy a game of flippy cup. However, I'm still a huge fan of flippy cup, what's not to love really?

I also discovered one of the worst possible feelings when you wake up to a blizzard... that you're completely out of milk. gasp I am a total cereal girl. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I can probably count on one hand the times I did not eat cereal for breakfast in the last 10 months (no joke). So, imagine my horror when I realized I'd have to brave the weather if I wanted to enjoy my daily staple. gasp again

Someone must have been looking out for me though because once I made it to the store (hitting only a few slippery spots) I discovered a pack of eager Girl Scouts selling cookies upon reaching the end of the check out aisle! This was by far the greatest discovery of the weekend. I hope I didn't creep the girls' parents out too much with my excitement over purchasing my three boxes of cookies. I told the little ones they completely made my day!




Remember how I said I bought three boxes? And remember how that was just two days ago?











And thus begins the time of year when my time at the gym doubles in order to enjoy these delicious and addicting snacks.

Will's Arrival

I wasn't sure I wanted to write a post about Will's arrival partly because I believe this is a very intimate event meant for an exclusive crowd (in our case this would include just Mike and I) and partly because I wasn't sure I'd really want to relive the event. Last week Mike and I received some news that made for a very good start to our weekend. It's no secret that our school districts, Mike's mostly, have been forced to make drastic cuts in their staffing for next year. So far Mike's job has been secure but we take it week by week. A week with no news is one week closer to being okay. As for me, I was 99.9% sure I was okay which helps of course. Well, on Tuesday the state passed the budget which sent some money back to the school districts.. and by some I mean Mike's school district went from a 33 million dollar budget cut to 11 million! Although we're not completely in the clear (we'll know for sure after April 30th) this is obviously great news.  We went out on Friday night to celebrate this news and one of Mike's co-workers birthdays. Welcome to Iowa!

Come one, come all… to a place called Iowa (it’s in the middle, not to be confused with Idaho ). Welcome blog-trotters , I’m happy you are here! My Iowa journey began 8 years ago at Iowa State University and I’m now going on year 4 of my true residency as an Iowan. My husband and I live in the center of the downtown area of Des Moines. We make a living by teaching the youth of America (or future Iowans themselves). We both come from neighboring states (I’m from Minnesota and he’s from Illinois ) but we are thoroughly enjoying our lives here in the capital city. I have found my favorite things about Iowa categorize themselves into seasons, which is how I will present this lovely state to you today.
