All Play and No Work
Whoops, sorry for my absence. Let's play a little catch up shall we? First we must rewind to last Thursday, September 5th...
I left school around 3:13, about 17 minutes earlier than I should but it was approved by my principal so it's all good. I hopped in my car and headed to the airport. The airport. On a Thursday. Completely unheard of for me but it was all for the best cause because this girl...
turned 30.
TV-Timeout, have I ever told you about my dear friend Lindsay? Well, here's a brief recap. We met in college. She lived in the dorms the farthest away from campus (Towers for those of you familiar with the ISU campus) and decided she needed a change. That change brought her to my floor in my dorm where I lived freshmen year. She moved to our area of campus because one of her good friends from high school lived in an all boys dorm a hop, skip, and a jump away from our all girls dorm. From the moment we met the connection was undeniable. Lindsay was funny, kind, and a little bit wild so I knew we'd be instant friends. And we were. Get this, she told us a little about her friend in the all boys dorm and how he was a really cool guy and had a really great roommate too. "Do you guys want to meet them?" she asked. "Of course," we said. I can imagine your surprise when I tell you her friends roommate was none other than... Mike Pentek. That's right, that handsome man on the side bar of this blog. SO, Mike and Lindsay were great friends before Lindsay and I became great friends which makes her not only one of the greatest friends anyone couple could ever hope to have but a unique part of the history of Mike and I.
Lindsay ended up joining my sorority which meant we not only got to live together for the duration of college but also became the closest of friends. Lindsay is a very intuitive person who is always keenly aware of her surroundings and the people in them. Her bullsh*t radar is more sophisticated than anyone I know and is one of the biggest reasons I not only love her to pieces but admire and respect her to the highest degree. Over the years we've come to know each other inside and out and I can't express how fortunate I am to have a friend like her.
So when she e-mailed at the beginning of the summer and said, "Hey guys, I'm turning 30 and the only thing I want to do is go to Vegas with my closest girlfriends, are you interested?" I booked a flight faster than you can say Dirty 30. That was not brief... apologies.
So there you have it, at 5:25 last Thursday I was taking off to celebrate Lindsay's 30th birthday. And celebrate we did. 4 friends on a mission to give Lindsay the best birthday she'll ever have.
First off, the hotel. We were fortunate to have someone in our group who has a "connection" in Las Vegas. And by connection I mean we got to stay here...
for free. That's right, for free. It was amazing and we all agreed we'd never stay in a nicer hotel room for the rest of our lives. The bathrooms were bigger than the master bedroom in my house. It was amazing.
Next up, the entertainment.
We saw this show on Friday night. My cheeks hurt from laughing the whole time. We were actually surprised to find that it was a relatively PG-13 show. I'd say it's really more of a male dance party than a strip show. We saw some butt cheeks but that's as far as it went which was really okay with us, the eye candy was enough for all of us. Overall we thought it was a great show and the birthday girl had a blast. She was even hauled off stage by one of the men; he plucked her from her chair, threw her over his shoulder and took her backstage. She returned a few minutes later, cheeks a bit flushed, and keeled over laughing with how fun great was. After the show we hit up the nightclub at Encore called XS, an indoor/outdoor nightclub with a great dance floor where we danced the night away. It was so much fun.
So those were the highlights of our birthday celebration. The weather wasn't the greatest but it was probably for the best because one thing we all took away from the trip is that we are not 21 anymore.
Lindsay had a blast which was most important to all of us but I know I speak for everyone when I say we all had a blast. These girls have become as close as family to me and I couldn't be more thankful for them and for the fact that we still make an effort to see each other as much as we do. It can be hard with everyone living near and far but when we do get together it's as if no time has passed and we end up having the best time. Love them to pieces :).
