A Lovely 3 Days
Despite the ridiculous heat, we managed to have a great three day weekend. For the first time in a very long time we actually did not travel this Labor Day. Usually we head east to enjoy the final pool party of the season at Mike's parents place. This year, however, we had a wedding on Saturday night and the wedding just happened to be here in Des Moines! Of all the weddings we've been they never seem to be here in Des Moines so we were pretty excited. The bride and groom were both college friends of ours so it doubled as a wonderful reunion for great friends we only see once in a blue moon. Of course I don't have any pictures but it was a very good time indeed.
We were also lucky enough to host my mom for two days this weekend too! She offered to puppy-sit for us while we went to the wedding. We hadn't even considered having someone watch Jackson and figured we'd just run home in between the ceremony and reception to let him out, feed him and play for a bit. Now that it came and went though, I'm glad she was here. It meant Mike and I could spend more time catching up with our friends which we really appreciated. I always love having my mom in town but knowing she was here to help out and watch the dog was like icing on the cake. She even took him for a walk... brave woman! By Sunday she and Jackson were the best of friends and Jackson was as mellow as ever which meant he had a blast and was pretty tuckered out. He spent a good portion of the day walking around the house looking for her yesterday after she left, it was pretty cute :).
As Labor Days go for us, this one has been pretty low key but we managed to enjoy the weekend to the fullest. Here's to a short week and hopefully the end of triple-digit temperatures. Bring it on fall!!
