Weekend Update
Mike and I made a trip to the Des Moines Art Center this weekend. We've always enjoyed our time in art centers and what's not to love? We were admiring the masterpieces in one of the main halls when this one, by Edward Hopper, caught my attention.

I'm sure you're reading this wishing terribly you could've been there with us, because you probably love art and probably really want to hang out with us. No worries, readers, allow me to set the scene...
S: I love the Twenties feel of this painting
M: What tells you it's the Twenties?
S: The shape of her hat, the look of her clothes, something about the lights...
M: yeah, and the radiator...
S: Yeah, it's all very exciting yet a bit depressing at the same time
M: What do you think she's thinking about?
S: Well Mike, she's obviously a flapper, and a really good one at that. I bet she lost herself on the dance floor and fell madly in love with a business man over one of the racier dances she performs. Then, they obviously went back to his place where she gave him everything because when you fall madly in love on a dance floor this is your inevitable fate. Only sadly, right after they finished, he lit a cigarette and told her to kindly leave soon as his family would be returning early the next morning. She was obviously flabbergasted because she was sure her feelings of crazy love were mutual. She couldn't think of anything to do but wander aimlessly through the streets until she came across this coffee shop where she's now drinking straight black coffee and contemplating life.
M: And she just realized... (tone changes to a serious, mastepiece theater type) she left her glove there.
And, end scene.
To be clear, Mike and I have a very deep appreciation for the arts, really and truly. You just can't help when a good story strikes you and, I happen to think, we make a pretty great storytelling team =).
PS- We also saw a movie at the Fluer Cinema cafe where you can order Guiness with your popcorn. I spent the rest of the weekend pondering why in the world we would see a movie anywhere else for the rest of our lives.
I hope you had a lovely weekend readers and that your week is off to a great start. Just think, only two days until Friday. =)
