An Abundance of Thanks

#18- Breaks!- I love my job so much, I really do, but I have to say one of the largest perks are the regular breaks we recieve strategically placed around major holidays. I am so thankful to never have to worry about missing Thanksgiving or Christmas because of work. As a bonus, the day before any break I feel just as I did when I was a student myself... excitement I can barely contain.

#19- Snow- Snow around this time of year is absolutely beautiful to me. Fresh, fluffy, and white; you just can't replace the image of a forest covered with new snow. Don't get me wrong, I do reach  my limit but right now, for the purpose of this month of thanks, I'm thankful for snow.

#20- Harry Potter, but more specifically JK Rowling- I understand there are anti-Potter fans out there, some of which who are reading this now but, as I did with my sweatpants post, I stand by my appreciation for this author, series, and mythical world. When I think back to my childhood I can't help but remember the excitement I felt to go to the latest all-animated Disney flick for two reasons; 1)to see the movie, obviously 2)to see the preview for the new movie in the making. Although Disney has moved to bigger and better things, as it is with so many childhood memories, but I do feel JK Rowling has created somewhat of a fantastic modern day alternative to our old Disney favorites. I was a reluctant Harry Potter reader but thanks to some close family friends, I swallowed my pride and was shortly hooked, big time. I love hearing stories of families reading the series together then celebrating by watching the movies. I love talking with my students about the wonderful world JK Rowling has created and the intricate details of the characters and all the twists and turns. The movies, which of course we can't ignore, are wonderful as well. We just saw the first installment of the 7th movie and, truth be told, I cried because of how near we are to end of the saga. Luckily, my husband shares the same interest and we have agreed to plan our trip to the theme park soon after the last movie is released. I can't wait... and to the genius Ms. Rowling, I thank you so very much for Harry Potter and the journey you've created for me, and so many others.

#21- Family- I plan to save the final days of the month for members of my immediate family so this refers specifically to the non-immediate families of ours spread both far and wide. Even though sometimes things can get a little tense, my love for my crazy relatives runs deep. It's so easy to become caught up in your day to day grind but when I am in the company of aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins (on both my side and Mike's) I'm reminded of the truly important things in life. They center and ground me and I can't help but feel as though I'm the luckiest girl in the world.

#22- Friends who are like family- I wise friend once told me, "when you're in your 20's, your friends are your family." At the time I remember thinking, "well that's weird because I really like my family and don't really think anything can replace them." Now, though, I realize there's more to it than that. As I inch closer and closer to, the rest of my life, I am realizing more and more the solid friendships I've made throughout my life from childhood, college, and adulthood. Our wedding was the first time I realized how I truly saw all those special people in my life... they were our family, all 202 of them. Again, how lucky can one girl get!

#23- Wine- Well the last three were pretty in depth... even I have my limits. I'm not sure an explanation is necessary here, doesn't everyone appreciate the crap out of a glass of wine every once in a while?

#24- Coming home- I love the life Mike and I have created for oursleves and each other, but every now and then... a trip back home is absolutely essential. As we reach the exit for my parents house, something comes over me... stability, love, familiarity, but most of all complete and utter peace. It always makes me think of the Daughtry song- I'm going home, back to the place where I belong, where your love has always been enough for me.

Happy early Thanksgiving to all! I hope your day is filled with the comfort of family and wonderfully yummy food! Count your blessings, we have so much to be thankful for!
