Downtown Living

Happy Saturday, and what a beautiful one it is here in Des Moines.
A huge perk of our downtown location is the access to numerous events throughout the year. One of the best is the downtown farmer's market. Mike is out mowing this morning so I treated myself to a cup of farmer's market brew and found a few other goodies along the way.

A picture of our building in the background and one of the many stretched of locally grown goodness. On my way to get a cup-o-joe I stumbled upon some fresh veggies I couldn't pass up as well as the cutest little loaf of crusty yet soft in the middle french bread, mmmmmmm. I also scored an incredibly fragrant bunch of basil which has inspired me to whip up some pesto this week.

Would you believe I actually smelled the basil before I saw it?! I got all of this for a dollar! I can't wait to see what I'll find next weekend!

While this may seem like an ordinary relaxing Saturday, I do need to point out it is anything but ordinary. Today is the day this boy...

turns 15!!! If you would've asked me the one thing I wished for as a kid it would've been a brother or a sister. After 10 years, I had kind of given up on the idea and my parents told me I could start looking for a dog to add to our family. As it turns out, the time came to get a dog and... surprise! I got a brother instead! Jake, you have brought so much to our family and I have loved watching you grow, learn and discover the world around you. I know I give you a hard time sometimes, okay most of the time, but I am so proud to call you my brother. You have proven yourself as a wonderful role model for those around you and others notice your positive impact on just about anything you put your mind to. I can't wait to see what your upcoming high school years will bring. With all that being said... I don't care how old you are... or how much taller you are than me... you'll always be my baby brother! Happy birthday big guy!

Speaking of my little bro., over the 4th of July weekend I learned just how much he and my dad love beef jerky. Now, you may be thinking , "what on earth does this have to do with anything?," well look what I discovered at the farmer's market this weekend...

4 tents dedicated to beef sticks, beef jerky, beef anything! We have comfy beds waiting for you if you want to come down a taste some lovely Iowa beef!!!

Happy weekend everyone!
