Cable Invasion

When I used to live by myself, I didn't have cable. To be honest, I didn't want to have to worry about a cable bill. Not that I couldn't afford it or anything, I just didn't want to add a bill to my list of monthly things (that may be weird, I'm not sure). Would you like to know something totally off the wall... I survived living in a home without cable! gasp

Since Mike has invaded my living space moved in with me we have, of course, hooked up our cable. I have been sadly sucked back into the world of referring to the days of the week as "this show" day and "that show" day. Its crazy how quickly this happens and despite best efforts to engage in other activities the tv remote somehow ends up in your hand calling you to turn the tv on.

Lately, however, my summer schedule has demanded my evening time so I have been "off" tv since about mid-late June. Instead of tv, I spend my nights reading or writing and after about 2 weeks I noticed something strange... when I reached the end of my task list for the nights I had no desire to reach for the remote. As my summer schedule comes to an end (and both of my research papers have been successfully edited and submitted for grading, thank you very much!) I can feel the cable invasion creeping its way back into my life. I'll have to stay strong and resist the urge because I really see potential for all the things I can accomplish when the tv is off. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything wrong with watching tv (I am a huge fan of stay-cations especially when the weather gets colder, nothing beats a Sunday watching, say, a Top Chef marathon all wrapped up in blankies... good times), but I do think, sometimes, it keeps us from doing other things we might find enjoyable but haven't discovered because we're watching tv!
