Weekend Update- 3 day version

Mike and I went into this weekend with big plans... we decided to plan nothing at all. Seriously, we thought and thought about this free 3 days we had ahead of us and it dawned upon us that we've had big plans every weekend for the past six weeks. Therefore, our plans were simple for this weekend, let's not plan for anything and see what comes of it. And it went splendidly.

We did know we were in desparate need of a whole house cleaning and had our minds set that some of it would be completed on Friday night but something just didn't sit well with us when we thought about cleaning on a Friday night. So, we didn't clean at all. We caught up on some recorded shows and then played a little Wii Resort (I'm trying my darndest to improve my jousting skills but everytime I try, Mike beats me to a pulp. Someday folks, someday). So, no cleaning was completed but we didn't sweat it. You could tell we were both feeling pretty mellow about it all because I believe we cut our losses and were in bed by 10:30 at the latest.

Saturday was a very sunny, but very humid day here in Des Moines. Mike and I decided we better get some form of exercise in at some point during these three days off so I set out for a nice long run and he set out for a nice long bike ride. If you were to have stopped by for a visit on Saturday between the hours of 2-4 you would've known our excursions took it out of us as we were both dead to the world on our respective couches. Once we recharged we spent the evening with friends and played the new Mario Party 9 game. Any Wii Mario Party fans out there? The friend who invited us loves Mario Party 8 and was really excited to try 9. He didn't like it as much but said they probably needed to get used to it. Mike and I can't seem to get used to the randomness of some parts, like how you earn stars and how they're taken away from you for no apparent reason. I do have to say, I enjoyed 9 a little more than I like playing 8. We enjoyed our time.

There was much talk about finding a nice place to enjoy a few daytime cocktails on Sunday but once we saw the forecast: a mere 91 degrees with uncomfortable humidity levels, we decided it'd be best, and a little more economical, to stay home. I completed season 4 of Mad Men and wow. What a difference 4 seasons can make!

When our bonus day off arrived, we finally got around to cleaning the house. The humidity had gone down considerably so we decided it'd be kind of fun to spend some time outside. We ended up playing a round of minigolf at Blank Golf Course. I honestly cannot remember the last time I played mini golf but we had so much fun. It felt like we were dating again in fact, I even called Mike my boyfriend when he retrieved my ball from the man made pond on the course. It was cute. Last night I told Mike I felt sort of bad at how "unplanned" we were this weekend but he reminded me this was our plan. I guess it's exactly what we needed.

I hope you had a great weekend too!

  1. So...Last weekend was sort of a big one for me. Friday, after my last day working in the ICU, I decided I wanted to hang out at home, so I did. I sat around on my computer and listened to so many random songs...ill bet you wouldnt believe how many songs have come and gone since high school. I did this because I was going through my whole music collection in order to make a playlist for Carr's wedding. It was a blast and Carr's wedding has one heck of a playlist.

Saturday. This was a crazy day. Couple friends and I got a hold of free tickets to Sea World. SO...8:00am, we piled into a car and made the drive to Orlando. On the way there, friends discovered that I have never been on a roller coaster. Ojash thought he was in the clear, thinking that Sea World had no roller coasters (At least when I was a kid and went to sea world, there were no roller coasters). Well...times have changed, and now there are roller coasters there...great. So, naturally as soon as they found out I didnt do roller coasters, they filled with excitement with the opportunity to force me on the roller coaster. This day of fun and sealife had taken a turn for the worst with all this roller coaster talk...anyways, we get in the park, and first thing...ROLLER COASTER. We all got in line, 35 min wait...so much time to have my whole life flash before my eyes. Pure misery. Then, my savior, a sea world employee, comes up and says, you cant take your backpack up there and I was told this thing had to go into a locker. PERFECT!!! I was free. I got out of line and got to put the bag in the locker. Friends stayed in line to hold place and we were only 3-4 people from the end so they figured id be back quick...nope!! I had to break a 10, get change, put the bag in the locker, get back in line...by that time they figured I had chickened out.

Then...i dont really know what came over me but, I was like, "I am riding this." I got in line, stood there, didn't say a word, contemplated my existence for the 35 min line alone...friends were ahead and I couldnt find a good way to budge all these people...Plus, alone was good. Then...i get to the final stretch. Heart rate like 140. Freaking out. I get to see the people getting on. I had never really experienced anxiety before, but this is was anxiety was. Here is what it looks like when you get on : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KHhRuro5ns . Pure terror. I was like, im getting out of this line and out of this crazy loony-bin of people. Then, out of now-where I was standing there, freaking next in line. Jesus, how had i let this happen, how did i let myself get all the way up there, why had i not gotten out of line before, why am i here. Then, i decided to sit in the roller coaster seat...mainly because there was no good way out. then i put the safety harness down and it clicked twice. NOPE!! IM OUTTA HERE!! NOT DOING THIS!! OK, time to push the bar up. Not budging. I was already past the point of no return...i had entered the realm of inevitability.

  2. Then, i turned to the little kid next to me and said, "this is my first time on a roller coaster." He promptly returned with," This is your first time, and you chose this?..."When you puke, puke down, dont turn towards me." This little bastard had me pegged as a puker. Then we started moving. Smoother than I thought. I can handle this. No problem. Then, my brain decided without conscious participation ...music was necessary for this. Whitesnake. Here I go again on my own. Well done, brain, well done. Anyways...roller coasters are my new favorite thing!! I am just mad it took me 27 years to do it. I got off the ride, immediately got back into line and rode again. I count that as a life milestone done.

Then we saw whales, dolphins, otters, seals, walruses. Amazing time, lots of fun.

Sunday - BEACH DAY!!! Chilled on the beach, did nothing. It was amazing. Grilled out for dinner. Watched sunset.

Monday - Back to the world of saving lives.

Anyways...sorry for the huge post, but i wanted to tell you guys about my weekend. Also, dont judge spelling, grammar, or punctuation in this.

Also, see you in two weeks.
