It's a Sign

Sunday is grocery day in our house. This means sometime early Sunday is meal planning time for us. Nothing fancy, we just run through our week and decide which nights we want to make dinner because we'll both be home to cook/eat/cleanup. *Sidenote- we don't cook every night. It's seems silly to cook something new each night when it's only the two of us so we choose about 3 nights of the week to cook dinner then rely on leftovers/pantry staples to serve as our dinner for the other nights. It works, especially during soccer season when Mike had games two nights per week. So, Tuesday night (last night) we decided to make tacos, a favorite of ours. I check the freezer... we have meat... done.

So Tuesday night rolls around, Mike and I return home around the same time. I jump into a post-gym shower, Mike starts supper (a usual routine around here). As I'm slipping into my comfy clothes with sopping wet hair, I hear, "we don't have any taco seasoning." I pause to think, "hmmm, I wonder what else we don't have?"

So I check...
taco sauce? nope
cheese? yep
tortillas? one
salsa? nope
tortilla chips? only crumbs

To recap: Our taco dinner consisted of flavorless meat, one tortilla, and cheese.

It's a sign that summer is hear. It's inevitable. Every year around this time things just start to slip. We become less concerned about making sure everything is set for the week ahead and keeping the house clean because we know we'll have time, later. Mike's summer will come before mine (I work until June 19th) but that won't stop "summer mode" from taking over the household.

I did manage to remedy our taco dinner fail by making a mad dash to the store. All was well (although it was very clear I had just jumped out of the shower had was wearing a "not intended for public" outfit, oops. Luckily, everything was in one aisle and it was near the checkout.)

Honestly, this year went by so fast I can't believe another summer is upon us. Doesn't make me any less excited though, it'll be a great summer indeed.
