Welcome to our home!

I thought it was about time I bring you on a brief tour of the humble abode. Note, this will not include the kitchen because that deserves a bit more of a before and after type format.

Our home is a bit unique in that it is sort of a reverse ranch. Instead of sitting at the top of the hill with a walk out basement, our house goes into the hill and the walk out basement door is actually our front door (clear as mud right?). Therefore, the entry way looks into our family room pictured below.

We painted this room a gray-beige with a green accent wall. So far, the only addition to this room has been the curtains which served a few purposes. Mainly, you can literally walk right up to this window and stare straight into our family room. Seeing as how we had an entire kitchen worth of cabinets sitting here for about two weeks, we knew we'd need something to close the room off especially at night. While we aren't opposed to the duct-taped-sheet-covering-the-window-look, I found these chocolate curtains at JC Penney HomeStore on clearance and really liked them. I also found the curtain rod at Marshall's for a mere $20, and voila... curtains for the family room. Oh, and you'll also notice we still have remnants of cabinets and kitchen items laying about. Hey, nothing says family room like a faucet in a box sitting in the middle of the room, right?!

This is the view of the living room, as you reach the top of the stairs, which is slowly but surely coming together. This room will most likely evolve as time goes by. Mike isn't crazy about the furniture arrangement and the window treatments are far from our style (they're nice but much more elegant for our casual-cozy style). All in due time though, it's functional which is what counts for now.

Try not to be too jealous with our shabby-chic dining room =). Oh, the joys of home improvement. This is actually an older picture and it looks much better now that we've been able to put items into the cabinets. I have no idea what will become of this room once the kitchen is totally complete because we do not have one single piece of dining room furniture! Oh well, that's what being newlyweds and first time home buyer's is all about right!

Our two bedrooms, one with a very nice guest bed (to accommodate visitors!!!) and our office. The office makes me so sad because it's just bare enough to look totally neglected. No worries though, I have high hopes... more on that to come.

And here's our Master bedroom which, right now, is my favorite room mostly because, aside from wall items, it's completely and totally finished. I got a new duvet cover because the one we had was too dark for this room. I also purchased new nightstands and lamps so they matched. We love it!

Lastly, here are two my most favorite things so far about the house:

Our master bath shower and our new washer and dryer (sorry, this is a bad picture, I washed our white family chair cushion covers which is that white thing you see draped between the lovely machines). The master shower was an improvement the previous owners made and I must say... we love it.
Of course, we also love having our very own washer and dryer! We got a sweet deal at Best Buy which makes them even better. Finally, the days of waiting as long as possible to wash clothes are over!

It's definitely coming together. We do not have anything whatsoever on the walls yet and, frankly, I'm sure this will take a while. We want to take our time with things to make sure anything we bring into this home will serve us well in the long haul. In the meantime, I'm having lots of fun surfing websites and browsing home catalogs and magazines for lots of ideas. Thanks for stopping by, hope you liked the tour!
