The Window is Closing
Here are a few more things I've learned since this exciting post...
1. Some babies really, really do not come on time. Also, fun fact, I was 3 weeks late. My mom is convinced they had the due date wrong and if I'm being honest, Mike and I both have actually thought June 6th was early the whole time I've been pregnant (but what do we know, right?). Anyways, if blogs existed back then and my mom had one, she could've written similar posts.
2. Going into the doctor frequently is both encouraging and discouraging all in one. It's encouraging because you get to hear the baby's heartbeat for an extended period of time. They strap two fetal monitors to your belly and you get to just listen to the hum of baby for a while. It's discouraging because they can't really tell you anything except, the baby looks good and mama looks good (at least in our case). These usually last 20 minutes or so but yesterday I was strapped to the machine for twice that time because baby was moving around too much to get an accurate reading. Little rascal.
3. True confessions time: Ever since my glucose test at 27 weeks I knew this baby was going to be a late one. Everyone has advice for you when you're pregnant, especially when it's your first, so I tried to avoid making statements about my pregnancy that opened doors for others advice and stories in general proving me wrong. Well, here I sit, 8 days after my due date and I'm finally ready to admit, I knew this was how it was going to go the whole time. When the nurse returned to my room after checking my blood work from my glucose screening her jaw dropped and she said, "I've never seen numbers more perfect than yours, whatever you're doing keep doing it." To which I immediately responded in my head, "Oh my god. This baby is going to cook as long as humanly possible." Don't ask me why, just an honest recollection.
4. When you go past your due date you receive many well wishes from loved ones which are nice to receive, it's always nice to know people care about your state of being. These well wishes can be stated in a way that makes it seem as if you have control over when the baby will arrive which makes you feel like you're disappointing people. There is also an extreme sense of urgency with all questions related to baby's arrival. I can assure you, when a mama is past her due date no one in the whole wide world feels more urgent about baby's arrival than the mama. No one.
5. The nesting instinct has an expiration date. There can't possibly be any more ways to clean and organize this house.
6. I'm very curious to see what comes to mind when we look back on this time (by we I mean Mike and I). We've been told to get as much sleep as we can, enjoy the freedom while it lasts, and to take it easy because everything is about to get crazy. This is hard to wrap our brains around even though we know they're correct. Also, I personally would like to adapt this advice just a bit... people should really give this advice to couples trying to conceive. First of all, trying to come up with super exciting, fun things to do when you're 10 months pregnant isn't really super exciting or fun and second of all, sleep at 10 months pregnant isn't exactly blissful.
So, we left the doctor yesterday with an induction appointment for Tuesday night. Unless baby decides to come sooner, we'll head to the hospital Tuesday night with the plan to deliver sometime on Wednesday. I'm thankful our doctor is giving us more time for it to happen on its own but also recognizes we're ready to move into the next phase of this journey and that it'll be time to do so by then. There are a lot of things up in the air but one thing is for sure, it'll be an exciting week :). Stay tuned...
