Weekend Update
Friday was a big day. I spent the day in Ames with the 1st and 2nd graders from my school. We saw the play Charlotte's Web and even got to eat lunch under the stage at CY Stephens Auditorium. It was pretty sweet and the kids were phenomenal. I think CY Stephens appreciated our attendance too because we added some much needed diversity in the crowd.
Later that evening we headed over to the Drake campus for Share the Mic night and I must say, it was their best show yet. They even raised $1100 for the Des Moines I Have a Dream Foundation. It was amazing and Mike even performed with a colleague. Remember the last time he performed? Well, I certainly thought I was proud of him then but that was nothing compared to how I felt on Friday night. He killed it and I loved every minute of it. When I left the building and walked to my car (Mike rides the bus to and from school with the kids on these nights) I even heard two students talking about how awesome Mr. Pentek's poem was. Success. We went out afterwards with friends to celebrate such a successful evening. I had a lemon drop martini (or two). Mmmmm.
It's a good think Friday was so exciting because our lives since have been a bit boring. Mike had class and I took advantage of a quiet, nothing-much-to-do, lazy day at home on Saturday. We did see Django Unchained and it was very good. Jamie Foxx has never been on my list of sexy celebrities (I do have a list though, and so does Mike) but after seeing this movie he almost beat out everyone on the list.
Before I go, can we please talk about how it's February. February. I've explained my thoughts on this sneaky, deceptive month here and I just have to say my thoughts haven't changed since. Here's to powering through and beating the February blah's teacher friends!
