It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (Almost)
Oh wow, did you know it’s November?
Between days like this....
and temperatures in the high 60's and even hitting 70, did anyone see this coming?!
I sure didn’t! Yet, here we are just a mere 21 days, until Thanksgiving! yes, you read that correctly
In the spirit of the almost upcoming holiday season (unless you consult local retail stores, which have been in the spirit since approximately the 4th of July) I thought I’d bring back the ‘ol 'Month of Thanks 'I started last year. In truth, I believe taking time each day to consider all you’re thankful for to be a lost art. The least we can do is take one month of the year to count our blessings.
In true blog form... I’m a bit late to the party (which is so unlike me in real life, hehe) so I’ll play catch up in this post.
#1- I’m thankful for my brand spankin new kitchen! But more specifically, our brand new, virtually silent, and totally effective dishwasher. Oh man, I know this makes me fall under the gripe scenario of, “Kids these days _______,” but I truly cannot imagine life without a dishwasher, and there’s only two of us in our house! Regardless, I do love the new addition to our home and am thankful for all its hard work.
#2- Back to the kitchen... I can’t help but think how grown up Mike and I are (well, in some regards) when I look at our completed kitchen. The remodeling certainly tested us at times and helped us to realize we knew nothing about homes and remodeling them but, what do ya know, we made it through and so far everything is working like a charm. I’m thankful for the feeling of satisfaction we both get when we spend time in and admire the kitchen we created, together.
#3- Big, Monstrous Leaves! I came home from work the other day and as I walked towards our mail box, I was completely distracted by a branch of the biggest leaves I'd ever seen! I grabbed the fallen leaves and stood in awe. I couldn’t believe how wonderful they were and had to fight urge to create a leaf book or do a leaf rubbing. I wanted to know how they got so big and then wanted to climb the tree they came from just to examine more (this really is no joke, I probably stood by my mailbox for at least 4 whole minutes... the neighbors probably think I’m crazy...perhaps you do too...... meh). I suppose though, the real part of all this I’m most thankful for is the fact that these leaves lead me into a moment of pure curiosity and wonderment. In the midst of this crazy, fast-paced, very adult life we all lead, it's nice to know there are still moments that catch you off guard and bring back the wonderment in you. (I meant to get a picture of these leaves but it was dark by the time I returned home this evening. You’ll have to take my word for it; these suckers were at least three times the size of my hand.)
Play along, will ya! What are you most thankful for? I want to hear all about it during this month full of thankful goodness!
PS- What food are you most looking forward to eating this holiday season? I'm debating between pumpkin pie, My Mom's Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies, and gingerbread.
