Older, yes... wiser, doubtful
Tomorrow marks the official end to my summer courses and I couldn't be happier or more ready. All in all, everything went very well this summer. I was super busy, a little busier than I had anticipated, but it was a good busy and I have to say, I'm quite proud of myself. My final class for the summer has been Teaching English Language Learners. This is an area I know very little about so it has been very interesting. The course is a dual undergraduate/graduate course which means we have a mix of students. As I watch my classmates who have yet to graduate, and even student teach, I can't help but think back to my undergraduate days. Although it has been a mere blip in time, in the grand scheme of things, there is a notable difference between college life and professional life.
One day, I was chatting with some of my classmates and they were asking a bunch of questions about teaching, first graders, and even marriage and I realized... they were listening intently to every word I said... apparently, somehow the past four years have made me knowledgeable.
This is crazy to me.
Although I clearly see the difference four years has made (an example would be that I actually shower and get dressed before class, in undergrad. I did not, it's quite amazing to me that I actually met Mike during these days and he still married me), I certainly do not feel any wiser. One very sweet girl in my class said, "but you actually know what its like, because you've done it, and that's interesting to hear about!" I guess when you put it that way...
Regardless, it's not like I'll be writing a book anytime soon or anything. For now, I'll stick with blogging... and showering before class, haha!
