An Open Love Letter to Court Avenue Brewing Company

Last Friday Mike and I had every intention to come home straight from work and head to the gym together. If you would have heard the conversation in which this plan was created you'd have been completely convinced it was a for sure thing. We were determined. Then Friday night rolled around and I do have to say, if it were up to Mike we would've stuck to our plan, I was the weak link.

On my way home from work last Friday all I wanted to do was enjoy a happy hour. Not because I had a particularly rough day or week but because it was Friday. And we had all weekend to go to the gym. And it was a 3 day weekend so we really had all weekend to go to the gym. So I decided on my drive home to down play my thoughts to completely ditch our plans and head to a bar until I could tell what Mike's feelings were about our evening. If he had already changed and was totally gung-ho, then I'd go with it through gritted teeth, but if he exhibited any signs of weakness, I'd pounce like a fierce African she-lion protecting her young. So I pulled into our garage, walked in the house, and casually yelled for Mike.

He was standing at the top of the stairs, still in his school clothes, with his shoulders slightly slouched forward. A stance of impending weakness. I asked, "how was your day?" He said, "It was okay," the slight sound of defeat coming through as he said okay. I asked, "Do you still want to go to the gym?" To which he smiled slightly and hesitantly answered, "yes." Now, had we not been together for almost 10 years I probably would've missed it completely but the look on his face and the tone in his voice told me everything I needed to know. It took me approximately 2.7 seconds to completely hi-jack our plans and start the car (the key in these situations is to state your intentions very quickly and then give them no other option but to go along with it, hence the starting the car, he wasn't going to let me sit there by myself with the car running... genius, I tell you). Success. We were on our way to none other than Court Ave. Brew.

Which brings me to the title of this post. Ever since living downtown this has been, and continues to be, our go-to place. We have spent countless hours here with family and friends enjoying their food, drinks, and general atmosphere. Most memorable, however, are the hours we spend here just the two of us talking about everything, like we did on this particular evening. So much better than going to the gym together :).

Thank you, Court Avenue Brewing Company, for always being there for us. To us, you're just about the greatest place ever and you're local which makes you even better. We're forever grateful for you, your brew, and your general awesomeness.
