Thank you, Iowa

And now for a little bit of randomness.
(Well, let's face it, what isn't on this blog?)

I've said this before and I'll say it again; I never, ever saw myself living in Iowa. Yet, it is true, this is the state I call home. Mike and I have both lived here since college and it is also true that this is the only home we've known as a married couple (and actually as a couple now that we're on the subject, we never would have met had it not been for Iowa, awwww). When I think back to the decision to stay in Iowa, I can trace it all back to education. I stayed in Iowa to teach in Iowa and further my own education both of which I'm ever so grateful. I'd be lying however, if I said I haven't learned a thing or two from this wonderful fly-over state.

I've learned I'm pretty skilled at highway driving and prefer this as my method of travel.

I've come to appreciate the farming business more than ever before not only for the work they do for others but for the work ethic they instill.

Most of all, Iowa has taught me everything I ever wanted to know about politics.

I won't get into details because every blogger knows not to mix business with pleasure blogging with politics. I also know the subject of politics can put some people to sleep but hear me out... Iowa is a great place to be politically speaking. It's historically a battleground state meaning we get a lot of attention from both parties. Translation: You can't help but not pay attention and, by default, learn a little something about our country's political happenings. While some may find things a bit too "in your face" (and I'd be lying if I said I didn't think that from time to time) I actually appreciate this aspect because, again, you can't help but pay attention. Combine this with teaching American History to 5th graders for a year and I think it's safe to say, I'm hooked.

I tuned into each presidential debate, the vice presedential debate, and caught a good portion of the local debates on IPTV (Iowa Public Television). I even woke up early the morning after each debate to watch the analysis on MSNBC. Who is this girl?! I'm a little shocked at my attentiveness myself but I have to say I'm proud of it as well. And I owe it all to Iowa. awwww
