Home Again, Home Again

Darn, I had every intention of blogging a lot more before our final trip of Summer 2012 but alas, it didn't happen.

After returning home from Rocky Mountain NP we enjoyed being home for 11 days in a row before we packed up and headed north for a week long trip with my family. We left on Thursday August 2nd and spent the night in Minneapolis with my parents and brother and awoke very early Friday morning to begin the trek to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where we met up with the majority of my extended family members. I realize it sounds a little crazy to be gone this much in a one month time frame but my extended family doesn't get together that often (the last time I saw most of them was over two years ago) so I knew it was an opportunity I couldn't let pass.

My aunt and uncle's family have a cabin on the shore of Lake Superior in Marquette, MI which is where we stayed for the week. The cabin itself isn't quite big enough to house their family plus the 5 Dean/Penteks so we camped just outside in their driveway. My parents were gracious enough to rent a camper big enough for all of us to sleep soundly for the week. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather in the beginning of our trip so we could enjoy the beach during the day and well into the night.

Our last full day there wasn't great, weather wise, so we enjoyed some local brew at Ore Dock Brewing Co.. We had tons of fun and were very impressed with the great atmosphere. If you're in the area (which may be a long shot because it's way far north especially from Des Moines) I'd highly recommend a visit. Plan to stay a while too because they have games =).

It was a great week but I do have to admit we're happy to be home. We're heading into our last week of summer which is kind of sad but we're definitely ready for the return of routine around here. Now, if I can just manage to move these mountains of laundry and get this house back in order we'll be in great shape!
