Neglected Territory
I'm not sure if you've heard but the temperatures this summer in Iowa have been cahraaaazy. Luckily it's finally relenting but not at the expense of the one thing every household has... the yard. Ours is no exception; between being gone a whole lot this summer and the excessive heat our yard didn't stand a chance.
The green spots are new and a result of the rainfall we've finally received since flipping the calendar to August. Before August our backyard looked like a desert, a desert I tell ya.
Thankfully our yard hardly stands out in the neighborhood which makes me feel better, at least we're not those neighbors. This drought has made me feel better about neglecting our backyard this summer; that and the fact that we've being away from home for a lot of the summer so we wouldn't have even been home to enjoy it. Hopefully next summer will include a little more rain, cooler temperatures, and not require a large house upgrade (the roof, duh) so we'll be able to give this area a lot more love.
Which brings me to a little story to liven up your otherwise dull Tuesday night. Allow me to set the scene:
Our Bug Guy came over at about noon today (yes we have a bug guy... we've got some wicked spiders and centipedes up in hurrr and they creep me out so much that sometimes I like the Bug Guy more than I like Mike). He had just finished up spraying outside and came in to give me the run down... same as always.
BG: Okay Mrs. Pentek, you're all set to go.
S: Thanks so much, we really appreciate your time.
BG: Oh, since you mentioned you'd seen a few more spiders than usual I sprayed a little more right near the house. I also took the spray a little further away from your house, especially near your garden, so you may want to wait an hour or two if you plan to do some gardening today.
S: Thanks! While I sign the receipt I'm thinking in my head... "garden?" "If I plan to do some gardening today? interesting."
Now, do me a solid and scroll back up to the picture above and see if you can find the part of our yard that indicated to him I was a gardener. Go on... I'll wait...
Could you see anything?
Try one more time, look real close.
Nothing?
Me either.
I looked real hard too after he left and couldn't find anything. Ahhh, well... something to look into. Nice guy though.
