A Solid Effort

... or total fail, you be the judge.

I am of course referring to my summer reading list. Hmmm, let's revisit that
'ol list shall we? (full post located here)

Grown Up Books:
Jane Eyre
Shopaholic and Sister (pool read for Vegas)
Little Bee
The Art of Racing in the Rain
The Girl Who Played with Fire
Shanghai Girls

Kids Books:
Chains and Forge both by Laurie Anderson
Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine
The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester
The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry

Exhibit A: You see here a list of ten books titles, of which I have only read two in their entirety. That my friends is a whopping 20%, (I'll go ahead and say I received full credit on the ones I did manage to finish because, who are we kidding, I'm an excellent reader), or in the mind of a classroom teacher... not even worth the effort, sheesh

Exhibit B: The side note next to the second title on the list (Shopaholic...) shows the utter naivete of my own pre-Vegas-with-my-crazy-aunt-and-uncle self who wrote this ever-ambitious list (I had enough trouble keeping the pool from spinning let alone teeny-tiny words on a page, lesson learned)

I could spend the rest of this post writing a long list of excuses as to why I was not able to finish more than two books but I won't waste your time, or mine. Instead, I've decided to cut my losses and move on... sort of. I have created a new book list cleverly named: The Ongoing Book List. No time comittment and nothing set in stone... how smart!

So... here we go...

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest
Room
A Visit from the Goon Squad
The Hunger Games

We'll start here and add as I begin to knock some from the list. Oh, as for the two I did finish, you can read about Jane Eyre here (a great read plus it's available through Netflix on Sept.13th) and I'll have a post soon about The Girl Who Played with Fire soon (which is partly why the original list went out the window because the second I finished it I had to start the Hornet's Nest... and for the record, that's not an excuse it's just me explaining what happened, for real). I'm really looking forward to these books as I've heard wonderful things about each of them. On that note... happy reading everyone!

Comments

  1. My summer reading list didn't go as planned either, but I did read
The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo (and have the sequels ready and waiting)
    The Help
    The Book Whisperer
and 2 books by Aimee Buckner on Reader and Writer Notebooks.

As your crazy Aunt, I laughed when I originally saw your "vegas pool read" post, and I just laughed again...Love you!

Can't wait to hear about the new job "in detail". First day jitters for me, kids arrive tomorrow!
