A Newlywed Truth

Is the best offense really a good defense?

Allow me to set the scene:
Last weekend we were all hanging around the Pentek pool. It was the usual crowd, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Mike's cousins are actually all a little bit older than us and some already have children of their own. Kids and pool parties are super fun so we were thoroughly enjoying the giggles and excitement. Mike was sitting on a lounge chair and I had one leg dipped in the pool when a sad little two year old walked our way. Mike and I spent the next few minutes trying to cheer the little guy up (he was sad because his mom ran inside the house for a bit). We did the usual, acted really excited about everything, peek-a-boo, patty-cake, and then Mike's mom thought to offer him some food. She brought a plate of veggie pizza over and offered the little guy a slice and he was about to happily take a piece when, out of no where we hear, "ewwwwwww, you don't want that," from noneother than Mike himself. grrrrrr

This, of course, sparked the inevitable question... "what are you doing to do when it's your own kids?"
Except, the question wasn't directed towards Mike it was directed towards me! Say, what?!?! How am I now in charge of feeding our children and keeping my picky-eater-of-a-husband under control?

So... this got me thinking... is it seriously a productive idea to discuss these things before kids are even one iota of a thought in our minds? Mike and I talk, a lot, and though I will say Mike is a really good sport when we do discuss "big ticket items" (this was something we did a lot of when we were dating which is a time where I feel these types of discussions are super important), I think I have to agree that this may be something we can discuss when we know it needs to be on our radar. Until then, Mike can be picky and I will console the pouty faced wee ones =).

PS- Something that is on our radar this week... installation of the kitchen counter-tops (squeal)... back later this week with pics
