Double Feature
That's right folks, I haven't completed one book... I've completed two in the course of four months. I have finally finished The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo trilogy and oh.my.gosh. These books are amazing but are also, surprisingly, hard to discuss. I shall do my best...
I'm sure those of you who have finished these books can agree, you can't really talk about the second without talking about the third. If you remember, way back when, I discussed the first book in this series and really had a hard time getting into it. The first book is pretty slow but it is absolutely essential for the books that follow. In the first book we meet Lisbeth Salander and Michael Blomkvist and learn bits and pieces of their past and how they come to know one another. The second and third books pick up right where the last left off. In the second book you learn everything about Lisbeth which helps answer many questions about her character. Lisbeth is a young woman who doesn't care about many people but is adamant on woman's rights... and civil rights for that matter. In the second book, all the reasons for her actions are justified in a plot line more complicated than than watching a Real Housewife of New Jersey pack for a 4 day vacation (whoah, maybe that wasn't the best comparison but... did you see that episode, it was utter craziness!). Anyways, Larsson reveals the truth of Lisbeth's past in a way that leaves the reader white knuckled in suspense but also with sheer curiosity to see if she will ever escape the life that has been thrust upon her. I can't say too much but let's just say... it's a cf if I ever read one.
The third book answers all the questions you mull over while you race through the second book.
(Read in your best Forest Gump voice...) That's all I have to say about that.
I know, I don't mean to give you such limited information but you just gotta read the books! All in all, the books create a gripping tale and when you're finished...you'll actually miss the characters (does anyone else feel this when they finish a book?). I mean it though, you feel as though you've gone through so much with both Lisbeth, Michael, and a whole mess of others you're introduced to and follow throughout. The best advice I can give when diving into this trilogy, buy all three books at the same time!
Phew... it feels so good to have these two under my belt! Next up... undecided, stay tuned!
