Haven't done this in a while...
and by this I mean, begin drinking before noon. Yet, this is exactly what we did, me and the hubs merely 3 days ago. (this post was totally ready to go on Friday but we unexpectedly lost internet for a while... therefore it's a bit tardier than planned)
Rewind.
Soccer is a spring sport here in Iowa so spring break is, therefore, devoted to "captain's practices" in which the coaches begin selecting their players for the season. Mike is a soccer coach and was otherwise occupied at various times throughout the week with soccer-like obligations. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to head out of dodge for St. Patty's day this year. I had two different trips planned, one to Chicago, failed. Then one to Minneapolis, failed. After the second failure Iwhined loudly expressed my disappointment to Mike *I do believe the actually rundown of this scene includes a highly dramatic monologue in which I proclaim this to be the worst St. Patrick's Day ever and any chance I had for fun was totally and completely down the drain. I know, real mature of me, don't you think?
Mike mentioned he had heard somewhere that Des Moines wasn't a terrible place to be on St. Patrick's Day and he was sure we could, somehow, find a way to have a good time regardless of all of my failed planning. Turns out, he was right! Plus, he was finished "coaching" early that morning so it was game.on.
We were actually ready to go around 9am but realized there was no way we'd make it past 3pm if we started that early, so we passed the time by watching Regis and Kelly. We looked like kids waiting to go an amusement park for the first time, we could practically hear the green liquid calling our names, and finally headed out at 10am (because leaving one hour later was surely going to make all the difference in the world, right!)
The weather was very "springlike" which was a good thing because the main attraction for the day was the street party a block and a half from our apartment. $20, all you can drink and eat = success!
Green beer, food, friends, music... good times had by all!
