Remembering 9/11
Saturday marked the 9th anniversary of 9/11, it's crazy to think next year will mark a decade since the event.
This weekend I headed north to celebrate a dear friends bachelorette party. I stopped along the way to fill my tank and use the restroom. When I was heading out of the station back to my car, a man stopped and asked if I knew why the flag was flying at half mast. I said, "today is September 11th," and he reacted in a mild state of shock and replied, "I can't believe I forgot...". Then he proceeded to place his hand over his mouth, almost feeling a bit ashamed, and we both stood on the sidewalk in front of the gas station and stared at the flag in silence for about a minute. After our impromptu moment of silence he turned to me, placed his hand on my shoulder and said, "safe travels to you and may god bless."
It was a strange yet very touching moment. This event will forever be something to bring even strangers together in rare moments.
